Christmas Baking

This time of year is always a magical time to most people. When I was little, we always had a family tradition of holiday baking. My mom, my sister, local friends and I would bake “bon bon’s”(buckeyes), Oreo truffles, and all kinds of cookies. We would be baking for hours on end, sometimes days. I remember as a little girl begging my mom at the end “ will you finish for me, I just can’t, my fingers hurt”. Little did I know my mom was dragging on just like I was.

When we finished all the baking we would package up all the goodies into little tin cans and my mom let us deliver them to all our teachers and neighbors. This is what really made Christmas for me. Being able to go around and see the smile on peoples faces when they received that little tin can of baked goodies.

Now I can’t share our secret recipe for bon bon’s but I can share my all time favorite cookie recipe. Betty Crocker has the most amazing peanut butter kiss cookie recipe. Everyone needs to bake these cookies at least once a year!

I invite you to take this recipe and bake these cookies as a family as we did, because looking back I realized all that Christmas magic was my mom trying so hard to make our childhood a great one. Thank you mom, if you ever read this, please know I will always appreciate the hard work you did during the holidays growing up.

Now what’s your favorite holiday tradition? What brings the magic to your home? Is it Santa? Is it that sweet smell of holiday cooking? Whatever it may be, I hope your kids enjoy it as much as I loved baking with my mom and sister as a kid.
