I grew up in Ormond Beach, FL where you didn't see many farm fields. Most everything you drove past was condos, shopping malls, and of course, the beach. Now how I ended up in South Georgia and owning a goat milk soap business is a long story for another day.
Flashing forward to my life now; I work full time, I'm a wife, I'm a mom to my sweet baby boy, and I'm an animal owner to our dogs, goats, horses ect. Within this crazy lifestyle I still enjoy the beauty of looking over the fields and watching each stage of crops growing here in South Georgia. This brings me to, on the occasion, I ride with my husband to keep him company while hauling cotton this time of year. Sitting up so high in the semi truck, sometimes you can literally touch the trees, you can really see South Georgia from an entire new perspective. You see miles of fields, whereas in a car you can only see what is near the ditch. You see 10 cars ahead of you at the red light instead of just the red taillight in front of you. These rides really help me see over all just how little we are to the world. It helps me sit back and think a little more on where I want to be in life and set goals for what's ahead. I've always told my husband that milking goats is my "me time" and makes me happy. Well I guess riding in that semi truck has turned into my refection time on life.
This brings me back to my childhood self that knew nothing about agriculture. Buying clothing at the store was just buying clothing, now I get to watch cotton grow from my front porch and help haul it to the gin with my husband. Life changes us in so many ways and I hope one day I can help show this side of agriculture to others to help them see the bigger picture of where their clothes, food, soap come from.
